Meconi’s Italian Subs is owned and operated by Wayne & Nancy Meconi
Together, they moved to Olympia from Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1983 to make a new start after Wayne was laid off from the steel mills that were going under in the early 80’s. Adjusting to a new home and life was hard for everyone but they all knew that it was a blessing that they ended up here in Olympia.
The only problem they were having was that there were no good sub shops anywhere out here!
Back in Williamsport, it seemed like there was a family owned shop on every corner. That’s when Wayne got the idea to open a sub shop here in Olympia. He thought it would be a nice side job to have while still working full time at his other job. So whenever he got the chance, he set about remodeling a three car garage on Lacey Boulevard into his restaurant, where the Lacey Store still resides. After a lot of research and tracking down the right products and ingredients that would give the closest taste to “East Coast” style that he grew up with, he opened the doors in April of 1986. It was a huge success from day one! After two weeks, Nancy quit her job and started working full time at the shop. In 1993, their daughter Maria joined the family business and they opened a second location by the Capitol Building in downtown Olympia. In 2008, the family opened their third location in the “Old Towne Plaza” in Tumwater. In 2010, the downtown Olympia shop moved across the street into a brand new building with more seating.
